The Central Bureau of Investigation will bring Amarmani Tripathi, former UP Minister and prime accused in the Madhumita murder case, here this week to subject him to sophisticated forensic tests.Tripathi will be subjected to brain fingerprinting at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) here to help CBI’s Special Investigating Cell unravel the extent of his alleged involvement in the killing of the poetess. CBI sources said that Tripathi will be brought for the test on a transfer warrant from the Lucknow court after the completion of his police remand.]‘‘Such highly sensitive and sophisticated test is conducted only when the accused is in judicial custody so that doubts are not raised later on about the results of the test. Moreover, the test also requires that the subject (accused) is mentally fit and not under any pressure,’’ explained a CBI source. When contacted, FSL director Dr J.M. Vyas was not available for comment but sources said CBI had moved a request to subject Tripathi to the highly-sophisticated forensic psychology test. ‘‘A request has been received and he will soon be brought for the test by the CBI,’’ said a FSL source.CBI sources said the team investigating the Madhumita murder case decided that Tripathi should undergo brain fingerprinting after he failed to clear the September 29 polygraph test at Central Forensic Science Laboratory. Results of Tripathi’s polygraph test showed that he lied to investigators about the extent of his association with Madhumita — especially after the DNA test confirmed that he had fathered the foetus she was carrying, the reason behind frequent altercations between his wife Madhumani and the deceased. This was the reason behind the more than 30 phone calls made from his phone to Madhumita’s cellphone on the day of her killing. With Tripathi failing the polygraph test, he has little option but to take the brain fingerprinting test as otherwise, his refusal can make the prosecution’s case stronger, said sources. Through this test, the CBI will not only try to find answers to questions posed to Tripathi earlier, when he was found lying, but also attempt to match the information provided by sole witness Devraj, Madhumita’s servant. Devraj, who is presently under CBI protection, has already been subjected to brain wave analysis and polygraph test, which has helped the investigators know certain facts about the incident and alleged relations between Tripathi and the deceased.
