After nine years of legal battle in American courts, the CBI has managed to secure the extradition of a militant belonging to banned Khalistani Commando Force Kulbir Singh Kulbeera. The CBI had been fighting the case on behalf of Punjab police which wanted Kulbeera in 20 cases ranging from mass murder and massacre of innocent persons to snatching of police weapons, a CBI spokesman said. He was brought here late last night by Punjab Police officials. The accused had fled to the US on a false passport in the name of Mahim Mehra and was arrested by US authorities in Los Angeles in April 1993, the spokesman said. The process of extraditing Kulbeera was initiated in 1997 but he had strongly contested the move in America. But all his appeals were turned down because of prompt reply from the Interpol’s India office.
