Advani rap for Laloo

BJP president L K Advani on Sunday condemned Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav for ‘‘irresponsible’’ remarks against the two Election Commissioners, describing them as ‘‘dangerous for democracy’’.

Laloo on Saturday demanded the resignation of ECs B.B. Tandon and N. Gopalaswami, charging the duo with ordering a re-election in the Chhapra assembly constituency under pressure from the then Deputy PM, Advani.

Without naming Laloo, Advani said, ‘‘A cabinet minister has publicly accused the EC of deliberately countermanding the election in Chhapra. This is irresponsible talk and effects good governance.’’ ‘‘This is not the way. If he had only accused me, I could have understood. But levelling such serious charges against the Election Commissioners and demanding their resignation is not right.’’
