The only Samajwadi Party leader to speak on the first day of the special trust vote session, Ram Gopal Yadav began his short speech by calling L K Advani “a leader in a hurry” and said he was only opposing the nuclear deal because he was not the one signing it.

“Advaniji is a good human being but he is opposing the deal because he is in a hurry to become the PM,” Yadav said.

This led to pandemonium in the Opposition benches, forcing the first and the day’s only adjournment. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

BSP leader Brajesh Pathak, for his part, came out strongly opposing the deal. “Deal bhi kali hai aur dal bhi. While the deal is said to be for the benefit for the country, whether the poor people of the country will get power or not is still to be answered,” Pathak said.

Borrowing from a couplet by Firaq Gorakhpuri, Pathak concluded, “America ki ghulami par razamand hua tu, shikwa mujhe tujh se hai, America se nahin.”

“Desh ki janta ko baksh deejiye. Roti, dal to de nahi paye, ab parmanu ki lollipop mat deejiye,” he said.
