Senior BJP leader L K Advani has suggested a "time limit" for the president to give assent to a state bill to make it a law.The leader of the opposition, who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday to press for a bill sent by the Gujarat government and pending for the last five years, said he has suggested in the meeting "a time limit for the president to give nod to a state bill".Advani, who was speaking at a seminar organised by CII in New Delhi, said undue problems are being faced by the states due to delays in assent to bills sent by them.BJP has been accusing the UPA government of being soft on terror and demanding early presidential assent to the Gujarat Control of Organised Crime Bill (GUJCOC).Leading a delegation of BJP MPs from Gujarat, Advani pressed for immediate assent by President Pratibha Patil to the GUJCOC bill. The Gujarat assembly had passed a bill in this regard and sent it to the Rashtrapati Bhawan for presidential nod on April 1, 2003.An amended version of the Bill, incorporating recommendations from the then President A P J Abdul Kalam, was sent back for approval on June 19, 2004.
