The 1986-batch PCS officer, Kirpal Singh (51), posted as ADC Tarn Taran, who was suffering from severe kidney ailment and hospitalised for the last two months, breathed his last at a private hospital at Mohali late last evening. His last remains were brought here today, and civil and police officers, apart from other prominent persons, attended the cremation. Kirpal, who is survived by his wife and two young children, was born on May 20, 1957, and worked as a lecturer before joining the civil service in 1986. His first posting as executive magistrate was at Tarn Taran and ironically his last duty too was in the same district. He had also served as ADC at Amritsar and Muktsar. His condition worsened when a kidney donor, Sunny, took a U-turn earlier this month, despite the fact he had consented to donate his organ to the officer and the transplantation was cleared by the authorisation committee. The controversy snowballed and finally the authorisation committee rejected the donation. Sunny’s parents had raised a hue and cry over the issue. Sources said officer’s family might initiate a legal action against Sunny, as he had taken money and then refused to donate kidney. The family members at his official residence at Taylor Road here said legal hassles came in the way, and they failed to save him. Kirpal’s friends remember him as a great friend and a soft-spoken professional.
