First it was the presidential polls. Now it is the issue of electing the vice-president of India. The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has proved definitely shaky. Well, the BJP high command has a mechanism to buy time to let the emotions cool off. The party will hold consultations with leaders and workers at all levels across the state before taking a decision on the continuation of the alliance.
There is a logic to it also. In 1989, when the two parties first entered into an alliance, opinion in the BJP ranks was divided, leading to Pramod Mahajan broadbasing the consultation process. Workers from across Maharashtra were asked to give their opinion, based on which the tie-up was announced. 8220;We have still preserved the register with the views of 4,000 people. Now if we have to severe ties with the Sena, it is only fair that the same process is repeated,8221; a BJP leader says. Is this a clever way out of the stalemate?
