Action initiated agains placement agencies

Meanwhile, taking a serious view of the things, District Collector S Aparna called for a probe and ordered filing of a case under IPC 420 against the Bharuch Jilla Berojgar Sangathan, another association for running a parallel employment agency.

The association had recently launched an agitation against a few companies demanding that they recruit local persons and had also asked for details from the company regarding its directors, its units, plant and productions. But according to the company sources, except for the government employment exchange or any state government authority, no other agency was authorised to ask for details.

Referring to the agitation taken by the association, Director of the Dahej-based IPCL Gandhar Plant S J Desai said the company had recruited 621 people from Gujarat.

The association had also attempted to stop the company’s vehicles to press for their demands to recruit locals. The agitators were arrested by the police under IPC 347 and later released after being warned against carrying out such activities. It may be noted that there are around 17 placement agencies in Bharuch and Ankleshwar, which are not registered with the District Employment exchange. There have also been reports in the past about these agencies taking candidates for a ride and making money through registration fees.
