Describing the expulsion of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee from CPI-M as “meaningless”, Trinamool Congress on Wednesday said the party should have taken action against him much before.“This decision is of no value. The party should have taken action against him much earlier,” Trinamool Congress chief Banerjee told reporters in Kolkata. She said Chatterjee should have resigned when the CPI-M had withdrawn support to the Congress-led UPA government and his name was included in the list of MPs submitted to the President.“Why did he cling on to the chair?” she asked.Meanwhile, CPI said that in communist parties everyone has to follow the party constitution and discipline however big he might be.Secretary of the state council of CPI Manju Kumar Majumder said CPI-M has taken action against Chatterjee as it felt that he has violated party discipline.
