MUMBAI, August 12: The commissioner of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Capt S H Shool, has decided to take deterrent action against officials of the conservancy department if they fail to keep the town clean and garbage-free.
Capt Shool told Express Newsline that a delegation of corporators and citizens called on him to complain about piling of garbage, poor road conditions, scarcity of drinking water and unauthorised construction activities in Ulhasnagar. They suggested that top priority should be given to issues agitating the minds of people.
The UMC commissioner said he was keeping a close watch on officials faced with charges of dereliction of duty.
He pointed out that garbage was not being cleared everyday mainly due to inadequacy of dumping grounds. He assured that trips of private garbage carriers would be increased, or more vehicles pressed into service for clearing of garbage.Shool said the demolition of unauthorised constructions in Ulhasnagar was also an area of priority.
