Acid attack on woman, kin suspect ‘jilted lover’

“Sonia was returning home after buying vegetables from the local market when two men on motorcycle intercepted her near her house. The accused then threw the liquid at Sonia’s face, and fled immediately with his friend,” a senior police officer said. One of the accused, is suspected to be Sunil, who had proposed to Sonia.

Sonia was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. Doctors say she has suffered 25 per cent burns, and her face is disfigured.

“We were informed by victim’s father, Om Prakash,” the police said.

In his statement, Om Prakash has also mentioned that his daughter rejected Sunil’s proposal and had even stopped talking to him, despite his persistence.
