The Madras High Court has again refused bail to Kanchi Acharya Jayendra Saraswathi today in the murder case of temple manager Sankararaman.
Justice R. Balasubramaniam said there are reasonable grounds to believe that the petitioner is guilty of an offence punishable with death or life imprisonment. The judge observed that Section 439 CrPC granting special power to the HC or the Sessions Court to grant bail was controlled by Section 437(1)(i), which says a person should not be granted bail if there were grounds for believing he was guilty of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life.
