A police inspector accused of raping a 20-year-old Dalit woman student inside a police station in Karnal has been dismissed from service after a court sent him to jail.
The dismissal order of inspector Jai Singh, formerly the Station House Officer of Nishing police station, was issued on Friday by Rohtak range Inspector-General of Police V Kamraj under the emergency power vested in him.
The DNA test from the forensic laboratory at Madhubhan was awaited and the probe into the case had been taken over by DSP (Haryana police headquarters) Surinder Singh. Further action would be taken on receiving the medical reports, officials said. Jai Singh was suspended following the allegations of rape levelled by the woman, studying in BA 2nd year and who belongs to a scheduled caste and hails from Bacher village under Nishing police station. He was arrested on June 26.
He was produced before a local court which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days on Friday. Senior Superintendent of Police A S Chawla said the woman had married a man from a different caste, which fuelled tension in the area.
The newly-married couple recently approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court after which they were provided police security.
A fortnight back, the couple requested withdrawal of the security and on June 26 went to the former SHO’s residence in the police station premises, sources said.
They said when the husband went out to a nearby market; the policeman allegedly raped the woman.
