BANGALORE, MARCH 17: The long-pending demand of the Bangalore Turf Club has been met with the Karnataka Government today proposing to permit the club to open booking centres outside for accepting bets.

In his budget speech, Finance Minister Siddaramaiah said the government proposed to allow the BTC to open booking centres. It also proposed to levy tax on the betting money in a race course. The totalisator tax was compounded for the two clubs in Karnataka. The totalisator tax payable in the BTC was proposed at Rs 700 lakhs and Mysore Race Club Rs 25 lakhs.

It may be recalled that the BTC has been demanding that more centres be opened for the benefit of punters and also avoid the rush in the club premises. But the same could not be implemented as the government had not given its nod.
