NEW DELHI, NOV 18: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students' arm of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, today urged Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to stand firm while negotiating with the developed countries at the forthcoming WTO ministerial conference.A delegation of ABVP leaders, led by organising secretary Dattatreya Hosbole, today met Vajpayee and submitted a memorandum on the WTO conference. ``The government should withstand the pressure of the developed countries,'' they told the Prime Minister.Vajpayee, after listening to them, is learnt to have assured them that the government would do everything to protect the country's interests. He also asked them to meet Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha to apprise him of their feelings.The memorandum urged the Prime Minister ``to safeguard the interests of the developing countries at the ministerial conference at Seattle as promised by you at the Jamaica meet of the G-15 countries,'' and also ``to stall the proposal to include social clausesin the agenda.''It also appealed to the Prime Minister to defeat the efforts to bring new sanctions under the pretext of protecting the ecology and environment.''The delegation also comprised ABVP joint-organising secretary Harendra Kumar, vice-president Lalit Goswami, former president Raj Kumar Bhatia, former general secretary V Muralitharan and DUSU president Ritu Mathur.
