SURAT, June 2: South Gujarat University teachers, who are finding it difficult to continue their agitation to press for hike in assessment remuneration, are in for yet another setback with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad planning to take to the streets in a constructive way.The parishad has decided to launch Pariksha Parinam Apavo Shikshan Bachao Abhiyan to create public opinion against the members of South Gujarat College and University Teachers Association, who are all for milking the university by resorting to such an extreme measure that has jeopardised the announcement of results of annual examination, office bearers said.Tejdeep Vansia and Chetan Sukhadia of the ABVP said that even if the teachers were justified in seeking two-fold increase in assessment remuneration, they had crossed all limits by keeping the answerscripts in their custody.The order amounts to blackmailing, especially when it has put students' future at stake, they added.Delay in announcement of results is not a new thing in SGU, but the teachers' decision threatens to put them on hold for an indefinite period. Students desirous of pursuing higher studies in other universities face a dark future, simply because a few teachers are interested in more money, though they could have adopted other measures to press their demand.The parishad said that it was time to recognise ``vested interests'' who were ready to barter the cause of education and interest of students to meet their ends. Some teachers were drawing their strength from the positions they hold on the association, it added.The campaign to create a public opinion, especially of students and parents, will be launched shortly. If the teachers' association did not withdraw their agitation the parishad will soon take to the streets and launch an agitation in all colleges of South Gujarat.When all work related to examination was compulsory, how could teachers deny to hand over the answerscripts, the parishad questioned. The student body also appealed to teachers, who were not ready to take part in the agitation but were forced to do so fearing reprisal from the association, to come forward and submit answer scripts to defeat the designs of a handful of teachers.
