I-T, SBI enter final
The veterans of State Bank seem to be getting better by each match, physical strain notwithstanding. They shrugged off an early 0-12 deficit and the absence of their point guard Shibu George, sidelined with injury, to overcome a fighting Indian Gymkhana 70-52 in the XII Bombay YMCA Open basketball tournament at Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar, today.
Indian Gymkhana in whirlwind fashion cathing their senior opponents often on the wrong foot. SBI soon settled down, slowed down the pace to their liking and without appearing to exert too much, overtook Indian Gymkhnana at 16-15. From then on it was SBI’s match all the way.
For SBI Siraj Ahmed once again displayed glimpses of his lightning reflexes of yesteryears and the seven-footer Sharad Kulkarni was a stumbling block in defence. SBI are making their appearance in a final match in the local circuit after nearly six years.
The Income-Tax (I-T) team fortified by five new recruits this season accounted for Mastan YMCA inanother semi-final league. With the rich combination of experience and talent at their disposal, the taxmen could afford the luxury of a relaxed game on their way to a 71-43 victory.
I-T and SBI, with two victories each in the four-team semi-final league, will clash in Saturday’s final.
