Dentist Rajesh Talwar, who was arrested and later granted bail in connection with murder of his teenaged daughter Aarushi, has moved the Supreme Court with a plea for framing guidelines for media reporting in sensitive cases.
Talwar sought intervention into the pending matters in which the Uttar Pradesh Police contended that its probe into the case was in the right direction and the publicity given to the case was to avoid speculation.
He accused the Uttar Pradesh police of confusing the CBI investigations into the murder of his daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.
The dentist sought intervention in the PIL filed by advocate Surat Singh, who has pleaded for restraining the media from giving adverse publicity to the case.
The Uttar Pradesh Police in response to the notice had said that it was prima facie satisfied about the alleged involvement of Dr Talwar in the double murder case.
The State Police has contended before the apex court that it conducted fair investigation into the case and followed all necessary rules under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before arresting Talwar.
The investigation was handed over to the CBI on May 31. Aarushi and Hemraj were found murdered at Talwar’s resident on May 16.
