At the centre of the border dispute between India and China for decades, Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh may soon be home to a Greenfield airport.

Moving on a formal request by the state Government, a team from Airports Authority of India (AAI) left for Tawang on Wednesday to visit and evaluate the sites proposed by the state Government to set up the state’s very own airport.

Currently, the nearest airport to Tawang is located at Tezpur in Assam. Confirming the development, senior AAI officials told The Indian Express that the state Government was very keen to set up a Greenfield airport and has zeroed in on three sites.
