Fed up of atrocities by militants, hundreds of residents of Bhangai village today assembled at Shahdara Sharief, a Sufi shrine, and prayed for an end to militancy in their region.

The villagers have been in distress over the abduction of their headman by some unidentified militants last week. Initially today’s mass prayer was called in the hope of getting a clue about where he was, but the people ended up appealing for an end to militancy. Four days ago, some militants had barged into the house of Mohammad Hussein and abducted him. Since then there have been no clues on his whereabouts. Police too have failed to make any breakthroughs.

Hussein’s family members, however, believe militants are keeping him in the nearby jungle.
