CHANDIGARH, April 21: Raja Kanwarjit Singh Sidhu, who is the general secretary of the Punjab Rifle Shooting Association (PRSA), was honoured for his outstanding contribution in the field of sports during the celebrations to mark the Tercentenary of the Birth of Khalsa held at Anandpur Sahib recently. There were more than seventy sportspersons who were honoured on the occasion for their contribution towards sports in Punjab.KS Sidhu, who took part in various national shooting meets for nearly a decade from 1975, won more than 40 medals, including 15 gold in trap and skeet events for Punjab State. He also represented the country twice in the Asian Shooting Championships. His first appearance at the International level was, however, in 1981, when he went to Japan. His second outing was two years later when the meet was held at Jakarata.Though the Punjab shooter could not win a medal in either of the meets, he returned home richer in experience. ``I learnt a lot about shooting during the two meets,'' he recalled.KS Sidhu, who is obsessed with shooting, was also instrumental in the formation of the Bathinda Gun Club. The club has helped budding shooters of that area to avail the facilities which otherwise would have been difficult. ``We roped-in some people to contribute to the club and the shooting range came up,'' said the PRSA secretary. The range has facilities for trap and skeet events.Among the nine units which are affiliated to the PRSA, shooters from Ludhiana are doing extremely well.
