SOLAN, June 15: At least eight persons, including two women, were injured, one of them seriously, in a clash between two groups of farmers at Manjhotu village under Barotiwala police station, in this district, last evening.The police have arrested 17 persons, including two women, involved in the clash, arising from a land dispute.

District police chief M. L. Negi said it was a minor clash involving trespassing by two groups of farmers. He added that no lathis or stones were used during the clash and only one person had received minor injuries.

The trouble started when Om Parkash along with Shashipal, Jaspal and Neelam, was working in the fields and was asked by one Duni Chand and his accomplices to vacate the land as he was not the owner. After a minor altercation, the men turned violent and attacked each other.

The injured included Om Parkash, Shashipal, Jaspal, Neelam, Duni Chand, Balkrishan and Pushpa.

In an FIR lodged with the local police, Om Parkash has alleged that the other group had forcibly entered the fields and obstructed him while he was working. He has further stated that the land was registered in his name in the revenue records.

On the other hand, Duni Chand, in a counter-FIR lodged with the police, has alleged that he was attacked by Om Parkash and his supporters when he along with Balkrishan and Pushpa was passing through the fields. He has stated that the land belonged to him and that he did not obstruct Om Parkash, but was instead attacked by him.

The timely arrival of the police prevented the situation from getting worse. The police have registered cross cases under Sections 145, 147, 149, 323, 447, 506 and 341 of the IPC.
