February 8: A 76-year-old woman was strangled to death and another seriously injured when some unidentified persons broke into their apartment at Santacruz this morning.

According to the Santacruz police, the incident took place at around 11.30 am, when Agnes Fernandes and Alice were alone at their residence at C D Building near Sea Princess Hotel on the Juhu-Tara Road.

The police found that Agnes had suffered deep wounds around her neck. They suspect that she may have been strangled to death with a thick nylon rope. There were no other wounds on the body, the police added.

Alice, who luckily survived the attack on her life, was admitted to the nearby Nanavati Hospital. Her condition is said to be serious.

The police feel that Alice could provide a great deal of information about the killers. No arrests had been made till late in the evening, the Santacruz police informed.
