Seven members of a family were brutally murdered in the wee hours of Tuesday by unidentified assailants, allegedly over a property dispute in Barali village in Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh, the police said.
The seven were identified as Sukhbir Singh, 55, his wife, Suren Bala, 50, their sons Surya Pratap, 27, and Abhishek, 25, and their wives Mamta, 25, and Lata, 23 and Surya Pratap’s son Chicku, 3.
According to police, preliminary investigations suggest that the murders were a fallout of a property dispute within the family and at least ten to fifteen persons were believed to be involved in the murders.
“While Sukhbir’s body was found with his throat slit in the farm, Suren Bala’s body was found on the stairs and Surya’s body was in the veranda. The others were killed in their rooms,” the police said.
“There was a power cut at the time of the incident and no one came to the family’s rescue as the attackers had allegedly threatened the villagers. Neither did Sukhbir’s four brothers — Pyare Singh, Jagbir Singh, Ranbir Singh and Manvir Singh —, who lived in adjacent houses come to their rescue,” the police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Bulandshahr, Rajkumar Kuril said, “We suspect family dispute to be the reason behind the killings. Further investigation is on. We have detained Sukhbir’s brothers for interrogation. No arrests have been made yet.”
