JAMMU, JAN 6: Five militants and two civilians were killed and three SPOs injured, and a school building and a Panchayat Garh were set ablaze in separate incidents all over Jammu since last night.

Reports reaching here from Rajouri said three militants were shot dead by the Army in an encounter at Ujjan, about five kms from Rajouri town today. The encounter happened when over six militants attacked an Army patrol around 1 pm.

Sources said that three militants were killed when the troops returned fire, sources said and added that the encounter was in progress till reports last came in. Three AK rifles, along with nine magazines and 117 rounds, besides one radio set and six hand grenades have so far been seized from the encounter site.

In another incident, two militants were killed by troops of the JWG Brigade at Nakka Majari in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district after the former attacked an Army camp during the early hours of today morning. Two AK-56 rifles, along with five magazines and 98 rounds, besides three hand grenades were seized from them.

Militants also gunned down two civilians at Kanthol in Kandi area of Rajouri district last night. Identifying the deceased as Abdul Qayoom and Mohammad Ismail, sources said they were called out of their houses by three militants in Army uniform before being shot dead.

In Banihal, three Special Police Officials (SPOs) were injured and another abducted by militants at separate places in the hilly Doda district. Identifying the injured SPOs as Abdul Latif, Abdul Rashid and Ashraf Qazi, sources said they were members of a patrol party which came under attack by militants at Nagbal.

Militants also abducted SPO Bashir Ahmed Malik at Chamalwas and set ablaze a government primary school building and a Panchayat Garh at Zanihal.

In Doda town, militants hurled a hand grenade on a police patrol party last night. However, no one was injured as grenade missed the target and exploded on the roadside.
