Seven Indian men and a Thai woman were arrested and charged with forging official marriage documents in Thailand, police said on Wednesday. The suspects, most of whom were arrested in the town of Hat Yai in Songkhla province on Monday, had confessed to the charge.
A probe was prompted by the Foreign Ministry, which learned about a racket had arranged for fake marriages so that the Indians could later seek Thai citizenship. The suspects were charging between $93-116 for the illicit service.
