Thiruvananthapuram, April 3: Seven accused in the sensational bomb attack case in front of the sub-jail here in July last were found guilty of murder by the Second Additional District and Sessions Judge B Kemal Pasha.
Three other accused were acquitted as they were not found guilty of the offences. The convicted would be sentenced tomorrow.
The first accused Farooq alias Karatte Farooq, second accused Sathar, third accused Manoj, seventh accused Ayub alias Blood Ayub, and eighth accused Hashim are found guilty under Section 120B, 109, 302 and 307 read with Section 34 of IPC and Section three and five of Explosive Substances Act. The ninth accused Sulaiman was found guilty under Section 120B, 109 read with 302 IPC.
The case was that on July 16, 1999 Kabeer alias LTTE Kabeer, an undertrial prisoner was killed when a bomb was thrown at him while he was being taken to Attakulangara sub-jail.
Vinil, a co-accused who was along with Kabeer in handcuffs, two escort police personnel and a pedestrian were also injured in the incident. The incident took place at about 1.30 pm when both the undertrials were returning to sub-jail after attending a court at Attingal. Kabeer’s head was blown off in the explosion.
The prosecution case was that the first accused alongwith others had killed Kabeer at the instance of ninth accused who had a prior enmity with Kabeer.
About 79 witnesses were examined from the prosecution side and 117 documents were marked. Prosecution also produced 32 material objects.
