MUMBAI, January 12: An elderly widower was found brutally murdered in the compound of St Andrews School, Bandra, this morning.
Mohammed Yusuf Dawood Kacche (62) was found in a pool of blood in his office in the school compound. The murder was discovered at 8 am by the school employees. Kacche’s throat had been slit with a sharp weapon, and there were injuries on his hand which showed signs of struggle.
The entire office, including the furniture, was in a shambles. But the table on which a few files and a diary had been kept was untouched. What stood out in the mess was a bundle of Rs 3,000 lying on the table.
The Bandra police, who have registered a case of murder, suspect the bundle could have been deliberately kept on the table to mislead cops, and the killers might have got away with a big amount.
According to eyewitnesses, Kacche was last seen at his office at 10.30 pm last night. He had arrived there after attending Ramzan prayers. Police believe the murder could have happened somewhere between10.30 pm to 8 am. Since blood had turned brownish and already formed into clots, police believe Kacche could have been killed some time last night.
Kacche’s daughter lives in Chimbai village at Bandra. Kacche, who was in the business of marriage decoration, had earned the sobriquet of Yusuf Decorator.’ He used to take decoration contracts for marriages and parties. He had done brisk business during the new year parties, and police feel the killers perhaps knew this and wanted to rob the cash he had earned from his business.
Police are examining the case from three angles. The first is that it could be a case of robbery (what has been robbed from the office, or what is missing, is not known yet). Another is that the murder could be a fallout of a property dispute, as Kacche had a quarrel with his relatives. The third is that he could have been killed by the relatives of the woman with whom he was having an affair.
The north-western suburbs have witnessed a spate of crimes in the last one week. OnJanuary 5, 13-year-old Heena Chhotrani was stabed to death in her Bandra apartment. On Friday afternoon, Bhavna Kaushik was stabbed to death at Borivli. The same night, 66-year old Mahalaxmi Mandan was found dead with her head smashed with a heavy object at Malad.
