NEW DELHI, April 19: Sixty two persons were taken ill in Mithapur village in Badarpur yesterday after reportedly eating rasmalai distributed by a man on the occasion of his daughter’s marriage. Except six, all the sick persons have been discharged from various hospitals in the Capital.

The sweets had been prepared on April 17, the day of the marriage. Shyam Lal reportedly distributed the leftover sweets to his neighbours yesterday. After consuming these, the neighbours complained of an upset stomach and vomiting.

Thirty four were admitted to the M.K. Health Centre in Badarpur, 17 to Holy Family Hospital, six to the Shri Ram Medical College and five to the Safdarjung Hospital.

The condition of the six persons still in hospital is reportedly getting better. The Badarpur police have registered a case under Section 337 of the Indian Penal Code. “Shyam Lal did not want to waste the left-over sweets. So he distributed them. Perhaps in the hot weather, they had soured,” said the duty officer at Badarpur police station. Furthur investigations are on.
