Fifty-seven people drowned when a jam-packed KSRTC bus fell into the UKP Left Bank canal at Nidagundi near Almatti at 2 a.m. on Monday.

The bus was on its way to Chittapur from Hubli via Almatti and Muddebihal when the tragedy occurred.
