New Delhi, DEC 1: A city court has acquitted five family members accused of killing the mother of a ten-month-old girl in a dowry death case as prosecution failed to prove its charges against them.
Additional sessions judge P K Bhasin recently acquitted Brij Mohan, his father Prakash Chand, mother Brahmawati, brother Suraj Prakash and sister Poonam, who were charged with causing the death of Brij Mohan’s wife Babita on October 4, 1992 at Khanpur village in south Delhi.
Brij Mohan and his father Prakash Chand had remained in jail custody for over three years in connection with the case.
Police had chargesheeted the accused for allegedly causing the death of Babita as they wanted her father’s property and the money which her mother had received on account of her husband’s death in an accident. Besides, they were also accused of ill-treating Babita for giving birth to a female child, police had alleged.
Police had alleged that Babita died under suspicious circumstances at her father-in-law’s house and her body was cremated on that evening and, therefore, no post-mortem could be conducted.
