NEW DELHI, May 26: The body of a 40-year-old man was found this afternoon on Shankaracharya Marg in the Civil Lines area of north Delhi. The man, who has not been identified yet, had been shot before his body was dumped in the area.

The police say that he belonged to the Sikh community and was wearing a green kurta-pyjama. The man was well-built, had a height of 5′ 7" and was wearing a Bentex watch and a kara.

A case of murder has been registered at the Civil Lines Police Station and investigations are on. “There was nothing on the body to indicate the man’s identity,” a district police official said. “We did not find a wallet or any documents on the body. Even the clothes the man was wearing were brand new.”

The police add that the person was shot in the neck before his body was brought to the area. “From the pattern of tyre tracks seen near the body, it seems that the man was brought to the area in a Maruti car. The car then reversed and sped away,” the official said. According to the police, there were no witnesses to the incident as the area is relatively secluded and the labourers working there were taking a rest in the afternoon.

In a second case, a body was found in a sack near the jhuggi clusters in the Wazirpur area. The police say that the person was around 22-28 years old and was wearing a white kurta and a pair of grey shorts.
