A joint team comprising officials from the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government has prepared a proposal to mark the celebration of 350 years of the Taj in Agra, and will put it before the Supreme Court next week. The proposal includes night viewing of the 17th-century monument.
A high-level team of senior officials from the Central Government visited Agra yesterday to determine that the celebrations—which are to last a year—do not violate Supreme Court guidelines.
The team visited the Taj Park, Mehtab Bagh, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort and Sikandara, the sites where the UP government is planning to hold cultural programmes for a year to mark 350 years of the Taj. The festivities are to start on September 27, World Tourism Day.
The final proposal includes regular cultural shows on each weekend at the auditoriums. There is already one auditorium, having a capacity to seat 70, and an open-air theatre that can accommodate 500 people. Plus a Crafts Bazaar, on the lines of Delhi Haat. Among the programmes planned are dance shows, drama festivals, musical nites and night viewing of the Taj.
