BANGKOK, MARCH 19: Three hundred youths broke out of a detention centre here on Sunday, a day after inmates of another detention centre in Bangkok smashed their way to freedom.Children at the Baan Metta centre broke down a door soon after breakfast and surged out of the centre, police at the suburban Thung Soong Hong station said."About one hundred have been taken back to the center without violence," he said, adding the other 200 were still on the loose."We are asking for a back-up force from nearby police stations to bring them back without using violence," he said.Reports quoted children as saying that a desire to return home was behind the jailbreak. Around 1,100 children are held at the centre waiting for their cases to be heard in court.Several groups of youths wearing shorts and white T-shirts were returned to custody before lunch time on Sunday in police pickups, hiding their faces from television cameras. The new breakout came a day after 1,300 youths broke out of another detention centre in eastern Bangkok, complaining that they had been ill-treated.The trouble erupted on Saturday when wardens announced security crackdowns after about 30 prisoners escaped the low-security center by scaling the walls.
