GURGAON, May 25: Amid protest calls made by the local arhtiyas, the Haryana state agricultural marketing board (HSAMB) and market committee, Gurgaon managed to auction three plots and 5 booth sites, for the New Subzi Mandi, amassing an amount of about Rs 74 lakhs at an open auction here today.

The auction was boycotted by the local arhtiyas, who were demanding provision for more and a revised layout plan. The auction had been postponed on April 20, after the arhtiyas had assembled at the auction venue and strongly opposed the proceedings. However, the district administration took stringent measures today and a large posse of cops was deployed to check any obstruction by the arhtiyas.

The auction started on a dull note but picked up momentum once the booth sites were thrown pen for auction. A bid for a plot in the New Subzi Mandi was about Rs 14,40 lakh while for the booth sites, the highest bid was of Rs 9.22 lakh against a reserve price of Rs 4.55 lakh.

The arhtiyas, meanwhile had gathered opposite the auction venue and criticised the HSAMB for conducting the auction.
