250 chrysanthemums of different hues on display

Flowers of all hues dotted the Terrace Garden in Sector 33 where the Chrysanthemum Show by the Municipal Corporation started today.

Jean Rodrigues, president of Indian Council for Child Welfare, inaugurated the show. No Congress councillor was present at the inauguration as was Mayor Pardeep Chhabra who remained conspicuous by his absence.

The Mayor and the councillors claimed they were all busy with some personal work.

Cultural performances were also organised during the show and Rodrigues, who released a brochure titled ‘Chrysanthemum Show’, also distributed sweets to the underprivileged children on the occasion.

About 250 varieties of chrysanthemum have been displayed in the garden, besides the combination of multi-coloured flora that has been used to create images of animals and birds. Gardeners and participants in the show have made a camel, peacock, cow, giraffe and many other animals and birds using flowers.

UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas, Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner R K Rao, Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria, former Mayor Harjinder Kaur and other senior officials of the Administration were also present on the occasion.

Competitions were also held in various categories, the results for which will be declared on Thursday.

The show is open to the public till Sunday.
