Over Rs 15 lakhs was collected by the Delhi Traffic Police during a mega lok adalat held in the national capital to settle pending traffic challans.A total of 20,168 challans were settled in the adalat held on Sunday in four traffic courts at Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Karkardooma and Rohini, a senior police official said on Monday.Amount worth Rs 15.17 lakh were realised from the traffic offenders, who were given an opportunity to settle their pending challans.This was the third such exercise - jointly organised by Delhi Legal Service Authority (DLSA) and Traffic Police – in the last six months.The fourth adalat will be held on May 18. During the first two adalats, a total of 80,053 cases relating to compoundable and petty offences were settled and collected Rs 88.66 lakh from the offenders.The first adalat was held on September eight and nine 2007, during which 42,567 cases relating to compoundable and petty traffic offences were disposed off and compounding fee of Rs 58.21 lakh was realised.In the second adalat, which was held on December nine, and 16 in 2007, 38,316 traffic challans of private and commercial vehicles were settled. An amount of Rs 30.44 lakh was collected at that time.According to statistics provided by Delhi Traffic Police, they have issued over 3.03 lakh notices in 2008 till April 15 while only 41,730 challans were paid.To know the pendency of challans, mobile users can sms "N" followed by a space and registration number of the vehicle to 50100.
