The Noida police claimed they have arrested two persons for the possession of Rs 70,000 in fake currency notes. The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terror Squad (ATS) was tipped off by a local intelligence unit about the fake currency.

The police have arrested one Bablu, alias Mithlesh, resident of Champaran in Bihar, now a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad; and Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Motihari in Bihar, currently living in Sector-58 of Noida.

The police said both Bablu and Mukesh came into contact with one Giri, alias Narkeshwar Shah, also a resident of Champaran, who allegedly supplied the fake currency to them. “Mukesh lives as a tenant of one Paras Gupta, who lives in Sector-58. Giri, the main accused, is an acquaintance of Gupta, who introduced both the accused to Giri. They were promised Rs 5,000 and a Diwali bonus on successfully using the fake currency in the market,” Ramsen Singh, Sector-58 station house officer, said.

ATS officers under the command of Sudesh Gupta busted the fake currency racket. A case has been registered against all the accused under sections related to cheating and possessing fake currency.

The police said both Giri and Paras are absconding.
