GUWAHATI, AUG 27: Sixteen people, including four policemen, have been injured as police resorted to blank firing to disperse an Adivasi mob that attacked Jamurighat police station in Assam’s Sonitpur district, official sources said today.

The clash took place when an adivasi mob of nearly 1,000 men attacked the police station after 17 Adivasi youths were picked up for interrogation in connection with the abduction of a businessman yesterday, the sources said.

The mob, in a bid to forcibly free the 17 Adivasi youths, ransacked the police station and broke its doors and windows causing the police to resort to blank fire to disperse them, the sources said.
