Fifteen Indian companies, led by Reliance Industries, are among Asia’s best performing 105 companies, a survey has said.

According to the CFO (chief financial officer) Asia’s best annual reports survey, Reliance Industries ranked 23rd in the overall Asia list. Rolta India came second, taking 25th place and Hindalco Industries third at 35th place. Japan’s Sony led the list, with CLP Holdings of Hong Kong coming second. United Overseas Bank of Singapore was third.

CFO Asia, a leading finance magazine published by the Economist Group, carried the results of the best annual reports contest in Asia. This annual report survey is done by CFO Asia in partnership with Belgium-based reports evaluator enterprise.com, an affiliate of US-based Corporate Essentials.

In all, 144 companies from Asia participated in the contest. Of them only 40 companies achieved half the maximum score, and five Indian companies were among the 40. The other Indian companies who made the 105 list are Infosys Technologies (36), Indian Rayon (37), Indo Gulf (38), Indian Aluminium (53), Grasim Industries (54), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (65), Bharat Petroleum (68), Wipro (78), Hero Honda (86), SSI (90), Ranbaxy Laboratories (97) and Larsen and Toubro (100).

From India, Aditya Birla group of companies has been declared winner in the share/investor information category for providing monthly stock price in comparison against the index, distribution of shareholdings and categories of shareholders.

This year’s survey had a section titled ‘hits and misses’ wherein some of the impressive features of few annual reports were highlighted. In this category BPCL and Infosys annual reports came in the category of ‘hits’ while Ranbaxy’s annual report came in the ‘miss’ category.

The survey judges the annual reports of the companies in various categories such as business overview, executive statement, financial highlights, financial review, governance, risk factors, social and environmental responsibility, design and visual and report them.
