ROOPNAGAR, July 9: At least 15 cases of theft of wires belonging to the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) circle have been registered at various police stations in the district.

SE (Operations) V K Nayyar said that the board had so far lodged 15 FIRs against the farmers during the current paddy season.

Besides, a fine of Rs 1,35,000 has been imposed in more than 100 cases for violation of single phased power supply. The violaters, according to Nayyar, were using the condensors. He said that a control room was being set up in the area to monitor the power theft, adding that the board would also ensure a 24-hour power supply in the rural areas. Replying to a question, Nayyar said that the board had so far collected prescribed charges from 163 villages falling in the Ropar circle for 24-hour power supply scheme on the urban pattern.
