130 held in raids on night clubs

NAGPUR, APRIL 11: All the 130 people including 37 women, held late on Sunday night in simultaneous raids on a couple of shady night clubs allegedly staging vulgar and nude dance shows, were released on bail against a personal bond of Rs 300 each by a local court on Monday.

The suspects, facing prosecution on different counts under the IPC, Prohibition Act and the Mumbai Police Act, were herded to the court of JMFC Buche at the District Court complex here by the police. Following a brief procedure, they were released on bail against the PR bonds.

Earlier, in a joint action the Crime Branch and the city police carried out simultaneous raids on the controversial Executive Club, Spark Inn Bar and Restaurant in the MIDC and Sonegaon areas, respectively, and arrested these people.

They included some public servants, businessmen, lawyers, doctors and an engineer from Amravati. The police released a list identifying all these 130 people later on Monday evening.

Acting on a tip-off, a large police posse, led by Deputy Commissioners of Police Kulwant Kumar (Crime) and Sanjay Kumar (Zone I), swooped on the Golden Spot bar of the Executive Club and arrested 93 people, including 29 women.

Most of them were found in different rooms on the hotel premises and in the main dancing hall where semi-clad women were dancing to the tune of vulgar songs, police said and added that the bar was selling liquor without the prescribed permit.

Meanwhile, another team, headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sitabuldi) K B Dogra, raided the Spark Inn bar at Sonegaon near Wardha Road overbridge and arrested 37 people including 12 women for similar offences. All of them were charged with offences under Sections 292, 294, 109, 176 of the IPC, 66 (B), 81 and 82 of the Prohibition Act and Section 33 (X) and 131 of the Mumbai Police Act.
