The Karnataka Legislative Assembly today passed a bill hiking the salary and allowances of its MLAs by 100 per cent. State legislators’ salaries have now shot up from Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000, and those of Ministers, the Speaker and the Council Chairman from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000—again by 100 per cent.

House rent allowance for the Speaker, Chairman and Ministers has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000, and travelling allowance from Rs 8 per km to Rs 10 per km.
