Police arrested a man in connection with a fire at a Connecticut nursing home early on Wednesday in which at least 10 people were killed and 20 injured, officials said.
As investigators worked to determine the cause of the blaze at Greenwood Street Convalescent Home in Hartford, the state capital, one man was taken into custody, said Sgt. Art Maglieri of the Hartford Police Department.
‘‘One of the officers at the scene told me they did make an arrest,’’ Maglieri said. Officials said the fire broke out in a wing of the nursing home that housed patients who were on respirators, which complicated efforts to evacuate the facility.
The fire, which began at about 3.30am EST (0830 GMT), was under control as of two hours later, fire officials said. At least 100 people lived at the home, police said. Officials have established a hot line for victims’ friends and relatives who are seeking information. (Reuters)
