‘This is where I sit, have my coffee, sing to my daughters’: Peek inside Debina Bonnerjee and Gurmeet Choudhary’s home

While walking us through her trophy area, she reflects, “I felt that I have worked very passionately on Ramayan, and I did not win any award for that. But that's okay.”

Actor, creator, and mother Debina Bonnerjee gave viewers a glimpse into her shared home with husband Gurmeet Choudhary, which reflects both their values and vibrancy.

“This is the space where I sit, have my coffee, sing to my daughters,” she said of her balcony. Raised with a love for mud, worms (“played with mud, kechua pakadti thi”), and her grandfather’s kitchen garden, she carries that legacy forward. “These days, I feel this is the only way you can teach your children to be rooted… we have to learn to plant, to nurture.”

It’s this same rootedness that defines her parenting. Her shelves hold not just décor pieces but children’s books like “Wheels on the Bus” and “Little Miss Muffet.” She adds, “Books are an integral part of my life. I think I have given this reading thing to Guru, but right now… I read books like ‘Little Miss Muffet’.”

A spacious balcony becomes her haven. “I can actually chill here. My balcony is pretty spacious, enough to accommodate all my friends. Sometimes during a party, ghar pe aisa lagta hai khaali ho gaya (it feels empty).”

While walking us through her trophy area, she reflects, “I felt that I have worked very passionately on Ramayan, and I did not win any award for that. But that’s okay.”

She then points to a special spot: “This is the place occupied by Gurmeet from 4 o’clock in the morning till about 6. He sits here, meditates, and reads. After that, it is my time… my lone time.”

Their love story began long before Ramayan, she insists. “He said, ‘Shall I send my parents to your house with my marriage proposal?’ and I was like, ‘That’s such a rude joke!’”

Television doesn’t dominate Debina’s living room anymore. “Once upon a time, I used to call this place the TV room; now it’s just a showpiece. Modern parenting says no screen time, so aajkal mujhe lagta hai baccho se zyada addicted hai elder generation. Sabka dekhna band hogaya because of my babies.”

She’s also always had dogs. One, she recalls fondly, is Dexter, who stayed by her side for ten years. “He was such a lovable dog.”

As she tours the room featuring photo moments with daughters Liana and Divisha, she shares, “When I was pregnant with Divisha, Liana’s first photoshoot happened. My mom’s bond with Liana is super precious. So this photo had to be here.”

“I feel beautiful. I feel alive in white, I don’t like any colour.” Yet, motherhood shifted things. “Pastels are the color I love, but my daughters love bright colours like bright pink. So I’m trying to get used to it.”

In the most relatable moment, she jokes: “Tell me you’re a girl mom without telling you’re a girl mom. You have thousands of hair clips at home, more hairbands, more hair clips.”

She confesses her one indulgence: bags. “I don’t have extreme love for clothes. Bags, belts, and shoes are my only love…Everything Gurmeet has said — ‘Take this, take that’. He was pretty adamant. He gifted me this bag all of a sudden… and so it’s very priceless for me.”
