During the scorching summer months, we all crave refreshing drinks to keep ourselves hydrated and cool. That is because the warm weather and increased perspiration cause us to lose fluids more quickly, making us feel tired and thirsty. Certain refreshing drinks also help replenish our fluid levels and serve as a satisfying way to quench thirst. From cold water, iced tea, and lemonade to fruit-infused beverages, there is no dearth of options to choose from.
Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram to recommend one such immensely refreshing and delectable summer drink. “This summer, try jamun sharbat,” she wrote, alongside a picture of a half-empty glass of the suggested drink.
Jamun, a native fruit of India, is immensely healthy and has been used in traditional medicine for generations. “The fruit is very effective, particularly in diabetes and other metabolic conditions like hypertension, heart disease, and obesity. Jamun is very rich in various kinds of polyphenols and antioxidant compounds which reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body, thus aiding in the risk and reversal of all kinds of health issues,” said functional nutritionist Mugdha Pradhan, CEO and Founder, iThrive.
She explained that the presence of an essential glycoside called jambolin, which inhibits the conversion of starch from food into sugar in the blood, is what makes jamun particularly effective against metabolic illnesses.
Agreeing, Dr Prashant Mistry, Celebrity Physiotherapist and Fitness Expert, said that jamun has numerous health advantages that make all the difference for the body. He shared a few such benefits.
*Jamun increases haemoglobin
*It is good for your heart
*It treats stomach-related issues
*It combats respiratory issues
*Jamun aids in weight loss
*It maintains skin health
Pradhan shared that while you can have jamun or jamun juice at any time you find suitable, have it in the morning for the best effect on blood sugar regulation. ” One glass of it should be sufficient to see the benefits. Try not to strain out the pulp from the juice as the skin is also known to have antioxidant properties and the fibre helps regulate blood sugar further. It is always better to eat whole fruits with the fibre,” the nutritionist said.
She added that people who suffer from hypoglycemia need to be careful with having jamun as it reduces blood sugar. “Some people with Type-2 diabetes also suffer from occasional episodes of hypoglycemia. So caution must be exercised. These individuals need to monitor their blood sugar and symptoms when adding jamun to their diet and start with small doses,” she explained.
