Fluctuating weather can cause cold and cough in almost everyone and while it becomes hard to track how many times we sneeze in a day, we also lose sight of how the skin under our nose can be very significantly irritated. Learn how it can be very harmful to your health and how to treat it.

Dr Sonali Kohli, Consultant – Dermatology at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai told indianexpress.com how allergic reactions are even more detrimental for your nasal skin.

She said that allergies can cause inflammation of nasal passageway and “when nasal passages become inflamed, people instinctively rub their noses for relief, stressing the skin. Over time, skin loses elasticity, and repetitive rubbing exacerbates crease formation.”

The formation of these creases can cause your nasal skin to be extremely irritated and sensitive and can appear in the form of significantly visible lines which would even need plastic surgeries to correct in very extreme cases. Hence, it is important to prevent and treat these creases as soon as possible.

Treatment

-Keep Tissues Handy: Replace rubbing with gentle wiping using soft tissues.

-Topical Creams: Retinoids or lightening agents can fade creases.

-Dermatologist Consult: Consider topical steroids or chemical peels for severe cases.

Remember, understanding the underlying causes empowers better prevention and management.
