The charm of a six-yard is genuinely unparalleled. But draping one is no less than an art that requires meticulous precision. So, what if we tell you that this festive season, you can flaunt your favourite sari like a pro with this cool draping hack by Taapsee Pannu?
The Dunki actor took to Instagram to share her go-to trick for pleating a sari with ease. In the video, she takes the pallu and lodges it between the perimeter of a closed drawer. With the drawer tightly securing one end, she pulls the pallu taut and uses the tension to fold the pleats neatly. A couple of safety pins in strategic areas — front pleats and the blouse —and voila, you are ready to take over all the Diwali parties in town!

While you try her go-to drape style, here are some common mistakes to avoid.
Rashmi Chopra, founder and CEO of Ecloset, says that draping a sari can be a graceful art, but there are a few common mistakes people often make that can affect both the look and comfort. “One frequent mistake is not securing the pleats properly, which can cause the sari to shift throughout the day. To avoid this, make sure to pin the pleats securely at the waist and under the pallu,” she suggested.
She pointed out that people are often guilty of wearing the petticoat too low, which can make the sari look unbalanced. “Always tie the petticoat around or just above your navel to achieve the perfect drape.” It is also essential to choose the fabric mindfully. While certain fabrics like chiffon or silk drape more naturally, stiffer fabrics might need extra attention while pleating.
Lastly, she mentioned that the blouse’s fitting is crucial since an ill-fitted blouse can diminish the saree’s elegance. Make sure your blouse fits snugly but comfortably to complement the sari perfectly.
