Designer Tarun Tahiliani accuses ‘Made in Heaven 2’ makers of ‘shocking breach of faith’: ‘I said what had to be said’

"It's a wonderful show and team. These slip-ups happen many times but they need to be addressed. Hence I said what had to be said," he told indianexpress.com

Ace Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani recently took to social media to express his disappointment over the use of his designs without any credit in an episode of the recently-released series, Made in Heaven 2. “It is most unfortunate when a popular OTT series violates the understanding behind the provision of clothing in the first place,” he wrote, in a series of stories on Instagram.

He shared that “significant portions” of the second episode of the series were styled using clothes provided by his studio “in good faith to the stylist”. However, in the show, “a fictitious designer (actor) representing a fictitious label” presents Tahiliani’s garments.

Calling it “a shocking breach of faith”, the designer added: “If this is what the production house intended, they should have engaged a costume designer, had costumes designed, and proceeded as they saw fit”.

Concluding, he said that let’s hope that this scenario does not repeat itself with other designers who have graciously let their work for OTT productions. “Furthermore, it is our hope that such actions will never be considered acceptable in the future,” Tahiliani said.

Referring to his statement on Instagram, Tahiliani told indianexpress.com, “It’s a wonderful show and team. These slip-ups happen many times but they need to be addressed. Hence I said what had to be said.”

In fact, Tahiliani has been posting a series of frames of Made in Heaven 2 for the last week, where characters are wearing his outfits, silently proclaiming his authorship that was not publicised in the show. In fact, his peer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s works were also featured in the show but the designer made sure that he appeared as himself in two of the episodes as a wedding couturier.

Recently, he posted a photo of Mrunal from the show in which she can be seen wearing a creation by the designer. “Mrunal Thakur @mrunalthakur is seen here in our multi-coloured lehenga in brocade that features meenakari, gota patti work, aari embroidery and sequins. It is paired with a matching blouse and a multi-coloured embellished gilet,” he wrote.
