These magical snow pictures of winter in Moscow are sure to take your breath away!

We have already been mesmerised by the ethereal snowy beauty of Japan. As Tokyo witnessed snowfall in November after 54 years, the frosty elements in autumnal leaves transported us to a real-life Neverland! And if that was not enough, now pictures of Moscow have absolutely stunned us.

Everyone is aware of the freezing cold in Russia, but under Christmas lights and festive decoration, the chill seems more heartwarming and utterly beautiful. Take these breathtaking pictures by Russian photographer Kristina Makeeva, whose photos of her hometown have made the world fall in love with its winterscapes.

Makeeva in a post on Bored Panda wrote, “I would like to show you how beautiful our city is before the New Year. When people ask me what is the best time for a visit to Moscow, I always say that it’s winter.” Truly, if this is what it looks like, its a nothing but paradise.

She agrees that weather is pretty bad in Russia at this time of the year due to extremely low temperature and heavy snowfall, but lights, decorations and festive colours make it warm and “fabulous”.

The pictures are bright and colourful and the festive mood is evident. The foamy snowflakes against the iconic structures of Moscow make each of her pictures surreal. Famous for its opera houses, oligarchs, and onion-domed cathedrals, any celebrations of orthodox Christmas may be serious than rest of the world, but there is no dearth of enthusiasm and fanfare in the city. With colourful twinkling lights, furry animals and with a dash of fireworks her claim of ‘Moscow Winter Magic’ is right.

When visiting Moscow in the winter, one must not miss the iconic Gum market – located in Red Square, it is the one-stop solution to all your fashion needs. And any travel mustn’t miss the Muzeon Park of Arts, a sculpture park on the Moskva River and the Krymskaya embankment.

After the great Russian Revolution of 1917, the Bolsheviks banned Christmas celebrations in the country but with time people have been celebrating the festival with a galore since the 1990s. The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the religious holiday according to the Julian calendar.
